Description

A gorgeous Japanese Rex Begonia with absolutely stunning leaf colouring! The Kotobuki has those extraordinary textured leaves with bursting combinations of silver, burgundy and black -like something from a Japanese lacquerware design. Exquisite!

Plant Nerd Tip: Bright indirect light is essential for those vivid colours. High humidity, consistently moist but well-drained soil. Keep water off the leaves. A truly beautiful and artistically named Rex Begonia - Kotobuki means 'celebration' in Japanese!

    Watering details
Water when the top 2cm of soil dries out, before watering again.
    Light details
Thrives in bright, indirect overhead light. While it can handle lower light, the vibrant variegation will slowly fade in dark conditions. During cooler months, this plant can tolerate gentle, direct morning sun for a maximum of two hours; any longer will cause the leaves to dry out and burn. Be extra careful during the intense Australian summer!
    Temperature details
They prefer mild, comfortable household temperatures and will quickly show signs of stress if they get too hot or too cold. If they drop below 10°C, the plant can suffer severe cold shock, causing the stems to become mushy, leaves to drop, and the root system to rot.
    Feeding details
Because Rex and Polka Dot begonias have fine, delicate root systems, they prefer frequent, weak feedings rather than heavy doses. Use slow-release granular fertiliser for an ideal distribution.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How will my plant be delivered?

Your plant will be carefully packaged in our custom eco-friendly packaging. Each plant is secured to prevent movement during transit. Your plant may arrive slightly stressed from the journey — this is completely normal. If your plant looks dry, give it a good drink of water, place it in a well-lit spot (out of direct sunlight), and it will bounce back within a few days.

What if my plant arrives damaged?

We stand behind the quality of every plant we send. If your plant arrives damaged or unhealthy, contact us within 7 days of delivery with a photo of the damage. We'll arrange a replacement, refund, or store credit — whichever you prefer. That's our Jungle guarantee.

How do I know which plant is right for my space?

Each product page includes key information about light requirements, care level, size, and whether the plant is pet-friendly. If you're unsure, try our Plant Quiz — answer a few quick questions and we'll recommend the perfect match for your space, lifestyle, and experience level.

How often should I water this plant?

Watering needs vary by plant and are listed in the care instructions on each product page. As a general rule, most indoor plants prefer to dry out slightly between waterings. Overwatering is the most common mistake — when in doubt, wait a day or two before watering again. Factors like light, temperature, humidity, and pot size will all affect how often your plant needs water.

Is this plant safe for pets?

We label every plant as either Pet Friendly or Not Pet Friendly on the product page. If you have curious cats or dogs, use our Pet Friendly filter to browse only non-toxic varieties.

Does my plant come with a pot?

Plants are shipped in their nursery grow pot. We offer a range of decorative pots and planters separately so you can choose the perfect match for your space.

When should I repot my plant?

Most plants are happy in their nursery pot for at least 6–12 months after purchase. Signs it's time to repot include roots growing out of the drainage holes, water running straight through the soil, or the plant becoming top-heavy. Spring and summer are the best times to repot, as your plant is actively growing.

    Can I return my plant?

Due to the living nature of our products, we don't accept returns on healthy plants. However, our Plant guarantee covers any plants that arrive damaged or unhealthy. See our returns & refund policy for full details.

    Do you ship Australia-wide?

We deliver to metro and regional areas across Queensland, NSW, ACT and Victoria. Shipping times vary by location — check our Shipping & Delivery page for full details.
