Watering

For these moisture-loving tropical foliage plants, aim for a cycle where the substrate stays lightly and evenly moist deeper down, with just a short dry phase at the very top layer between waterings. Be careful not to let the soil become bone-dry or completely saturated , and always empty any standing water from the saucer so the roots don't sit in stagnant water. When in doubt, it is safer to wait a bit and check the root zone rather than overwatering!

Light

Alocasias do best in a spot that gets plenty of bright, soft, indirect light close to a window with gentle daylight. Keep them protected from harsh, direct midday sun on bare glass, which can easily scorch and burn their stunning leaves.

Temperature

These tropical gems love stable warmth. Keep your Alocasia well away from the direct hot air of radiators—which can cause crispy edges and sluggish growth —and protect it from cold winter drafts coming from doors, vents, or tilted windows.

Feeding

Because your plant baby was fed in the greenhouse before shipping, it won't need extra fertilizer in its first few weeks with you. Once it has settled into your home routine and you see steady new growth popping up, you can start feeding it a dilute, balanced fertilizer suitable for tropical foliage.

Observation over Action

When your Alocasia arrives, give it one stable spot to acclimate and avoid early repotting, heavy pruning, or root-washing, as rushing to "fix" things adds extra stress. Keep an eye on the newest growth—even if older leaves look a bit tired or yellow after transit, a strong and clean new leaf means your plant baby is loving its new home!

Keep a consistent cycle where you allow the top layer of substrate to dry out slightly between waterings, while keeping the deeper root zone evenly moist but never saturated. Always pour off any standing water from the saucers so your plant baby's roots aren't sitting in stagnant water. If you're ever unsure whether to water, wait a bit and check the root zone again later!

Light

Your Monstera adansonii will do best in bright, indirect light near a window. Be sure to avoid long stretches of harsh, direct midday sun on bare glass, as leaf tissue grown in softer greenhouse light can scorch and burn quickly. If it's not getting enough light, it will let you know by putting out stretched, leggy growth or very small new leaves.

Keep those gorgeous leaves looking pristine by keeping an eye out for pests. Stop them in their tracks by pinching off any bugs you spot early on. Avoid any heavy pruning in the beginning unless you are removing clearly dead or mushy tissue to keep the plant happy and stabilized.
